Link Building with Directory Submissions and Articles.

Everyone that is a webmaster is looking for an edge on their competitors on the search engines. Two of the more popular link building techniques is submitting your website to Web Directories and Article Directories. In this Article I will talk about the benefits and rules that should be applied when submitting to Web Directories and Article Directories.

The main benefit of submitting your website to Web Directories is when your site is accepted into a directory you will normally receive a backlink from that directory as long as they have no follow turned off. The more back links or also called one way incoming links you have to your site the higher you will be placed up in the search engines for your targeted keyword.

When submitting to web directories there are many things you need to review before creating your information to use when submitting to them. You will need an Anchor text, Description and keywords. There are other requirements but these are the only important ones. Your anchor text should include keywords that your website is targeting to be ranked for. But the anchor text should not include too many characters. You should have at least 5 variations of your anchor text and rotating them when you are submitting to directories. Your description won’t be too important for the search engines but more so for the editors that review your submission, make sure it does not sound like an advertisement. Instead give a detailed description of what your website is about in 150-450 characters, it’s also a good idea to have a few variations of your descriptions. Last is your keywords, there really aren’t too important when submitting to web directories, and all directories wont even have a box for your keywords. Simply put your 5 most important keywords for this field.

Like Web Directory Submissions, Article Submissions also have a great benefit to your website. When you submit your article to directories you normally can have up to 3 hyperlinks at the end of your article. And the good thing about Article Submissions is you can use deep-link URL’s in your article which are hard to gain backlinks for. Unlike Web Directory submissions, Article Directories normally can give your website an increase in traffic. The reason for this is an article is a much better informative resource then Web Directories.

When submitting your article to Article Directories there are usually a few guidelines that you have to follow. The first one is making sure that your article is not already listed in that directory. Once that is done check your article for any errors like grammar and spelling. Ensure that you have all fields in the submission form completely filled out; normally these would be the title, author name, email, author resource, keywords and category. If you submit your article to the wrong category, this will normally lead to a declination of the article, the same goes for a duplicate article.

More ways You Could be Banned or Penalized in Google

The other day I wrote an article on how you can be banned or penalized in Google. This article I will be covering additional ways that can get you banned or penalized and things that you can do to avoid this.

One of the more popular reasons people are getting banned now is from buying or selling paid links. You see this happen a lot because people are always looking for ways to make additional money, and how much work involves listing another site on yours? You may notice two big name directories got hit for this, Aviva directory and Alive Directory. Both were dropped from Google Serps. For this reason straight from Google: Buying or selling links that pass Page Rank is in violation of Google's webmaster guidelines and can negatively impact a site's ranking in search results.

Many people im sure are guilty of doing this deed. Because everyone wants to get their site ranked up higher in the SERPS and increase their PR. One way Google recommends to avoid this is don’t sell or purchase links... and if you do they want you to add a no-follow on it. So then what’s the point? So if your still purchasing links or selling them just be careful. I suggest not doing it at all and seeing all your hard work on link building go down the drain. Google is doing this because they want people to utilize Google adwords and its money out of their pocket when you do it.

Which brings me to my next point, duplicating content... whether it is your own content or from others (which is worse)? If content is king, then why not make double or triple duplicates of my pages or articles? Well if Google sees duplicated content on your site that site will most likely be dropped from their index. Some examples are people creating mirror pages and then editing a small amount of information on the page to make it different. Google will still most likely detect the duplicate content. Another technique you see is people page jacking high ranking sites, and using that site to get your domain ranked higher.

The last “bad thing” I will mention in this article is using doorway pages or ghost pages to promote affiliate sites or using adsense. Basically these are WebPages that are over optimized to rank well in search engines.. But to the internet user browsing this page they will see nothing but advertisements and affiliate links. These pages are made just for income and have no value at all to the people that go there for what they originally searched for. Most likely these sites probably won’t last long when someone reports the page as spam to Google.

Some ways to avoid being penalized or banned from Google.

Now days I see more and more people complaining that their website is dropping far in the SERPS or disappearing from Google. There can be many reasons for this. There a lot of misconceptions and speculation on why this may happen. From my experience and from others I will list a few reasons why this may happen to your website.

Some people who create new sites may see their website at the top of Google not long after it is indexed, the reason this may be is because Google likes to see new sites and normally will place them at the top to give them some exposure as a new site. But don’t get comfortable with your spot in the SERPS because it won’t last.

I also had some experience being penalized from the Google SERPS, I was on on the first page of Google for a week and suddenly my site was back on page 10. I was clueless to why this happened. At first I figured that I lost some quality backlinks. Weeks later after I tried to rebuild my site to the top I found that someone pointed out to me that I had hidden text on my website. And it was true, you can check this by hitting CTRL+A when viewing your site and you can sell all the text. This method is considered Black Hat SEO, and if you are caught you may be banned or penalized from Google.

Another reason you may be banned/penalized from Google is because you are linked to a bad Neighborhood and don’t even know it. One way to check if you are linked to a bad neighborhood is by using Google Webmaster Tools and viewing your outbound links. Go to Google Search and type in the URL of the site you are linked to, if nothing comes back that means the site was de-indexed from Google most likely they were banned. So try to remove that link immediately.

Keyword stuffing is another big one to get banned or penalized from Google. Sometime you may see an Image on a site and the ALT to the image is spammed with 20-30 keywords. That is considered keyword stuffing and you may be banned for this. Also try to avoid too many or unrelated keywords in your Meta tags. I’ve also seen some people try to place two title tags just to get more keywords into their site, that is wrong and should be avoided.

There are many other ways to avoid getting banned and/or penalized in Google. I will cover more in the upcoming days.

Directory Submission Tips for New webmasters or Old

Here are some tips ive came up with that i also use. Everyone knows submitting to directories gets you more backlinks and increases your SERPS.

#1 If you have alot of free time on your hands and you can submit to directories yourself, come up with an organized list and start at the top. There are many all over DP directorycritic is the most notable. Everyday do about 20 and mark where you left off.

#2 Take some time to research what keywords are the most relevant to your site to use for your submissions. Also come up with a detailed description and a title, Make sure the title and description arent too long. Avoid using too many keywords in your description. In general the best description should be between 150-250 chars.

#3 Research says using different Anchor text will help your site, rather then submitted to 2000 using the same Anchor text. So try to rotate your Anchor text everyday, It doesnt hurt to use up to 5 different ones.

#4 Avoid submitting to directories that have no follow turned on, this basically means you wont get any credit at all if your site is listed on their directory.

#5 When selecting categories to submit to make sure your using the most relevant to your site, alot of directories will decline for this reason. Another reason they will decline is if your site isnt submitted to a deep category. For example a Car rental site submitted to "Travel" should be submitted to Travel>Transportation.

#6 Make a seperate email account only for submissions, you will receive alot of emails from this and much easier to go through without deleting important emails.

#7 Directory submissions is a job never finished, but this is a good thing for more backlinks. Everyday there are new directories opening, and paid ones becoming free. Even if you submit to 2000 free directories, one month later there will probaly be at least 200-300 ones not yet submitted to.

#8 If you dont have alot of time like most webmasters you can also pay someone to do them for you at a reasonable rate.

Dont have enough free time to get backlinks yourself? Try Nationsubmit Manual Directory Submissions And their Link Building Packages.

Benefits of Using a Directory Submission Service

With online business competition being at a near all-time high right now, website owners are constantly looking for ways to set their site apart from the competition. Online business is highly dependent upon internet traffic as advertising revenue goes to those with the most visitors. One of the best ways to improve a site’s online traffic is through the use of a directory submission service.

What is a directory submission service and how can it help your website? To put it simply, it is a resource that has all of the time, capability, and networking to submit your website to the best web directories on the internet. This will help to build your website’s Google pagerank, which is an essential factor in improving online traffic.
