One of the biggest problems for large websites is the duplicated content. Usually, webmaster does all the best to avoid it but sometimes it is impossible to do by standard techniques available in content management systems. Let us consider few examples of such problem. Internet shop has thousand different pages with goods description, but this description is reasonably short in compare with the rest part of the page, which includes navigation and other shop related TOS etc. This part of the page is repeated almost on each part of the internet shop and it is very convenient for user but for the search engines this is a bit of problems, because major part of the page is the same. Another type of web-sites where you can find this problem, it the internet-catalogues which give you classified information sorted by locations. Again this webpage contains large navigation and only one short string “unfortunately there is no flower shop in New Underwood” or similar. Even if you have got one or two lines with local information – this will not be enough to properly feed search engines.
How can we manage this problem? Currently I can offer three different solutions.
1. Reduce number of pages. This will make your pages more reach in content, but you can easily loose a lot of traffic from search engines.
2. Change all your technical information, like navigation, with pictures. This will work but many content management systems do not allow doing that.
3. This is my favorite one, but it will require some programming skills to write about 10 lines of PHP or Perl code and MySQL. Write about 100-200 words about “how good to buy products in this internet shop” or “how important to find at least one flower shop in New Underwood”. Then randomize this text with your code. Create unique text for each page and store it in MySQL. Then take it from MySQL when necessary. In order to avoid unreadable content, sources for randomization should be prepared manually. Take a look for a simple example: “You can {buy|find} {flowers|bunch of flowers|beautiful bunch of flowers} for your …” etc. It is very important to alternate some words with phrases, because it will generate texts with different length which is important for search engines as well. This technique was tested many times on different types of internet sites. For example this flower shops directories were build with this technique. Compare for example two pages Beautiful bunch of flowers and flower dealers in Meridian and Nice bouquets of flowers and flower shops in North Granville. You easily can spot that the text is the same, but this is the same text only for human, not for search engines. This technique is very useful at the start of internet site. When site will be popular and have very strong inbound links, you can reduce the amount of randomized texts and later remove it completely from your web site.

Duplicated content problem solved?

Natural Linking Strategies and Complex Structures
As we all know link building plays a critical role when it comes to website promotion and optimization. Artificial off-page optimization through reciprocal link exchanges has lost most of its value because most of them are made to spam the search engine results, that's why most of the sites which promoted this linking pattern (link farms) and reciprocal networks have disappeared from the result pages.
Natural linking refers to one-way linking where site A places a vote to site B because of its content and relevance, through this structure site B is not required to place a link back to site A which makes it look more natural to the search engines thus increasing the rank of site B. Creating unique content is often the best way to gain this type of incoming links, however there is a still a similar linking structure which resembles reciprocal exchanges but is not heavily penalized by Google because it looks natural, of course we are talking about A-B-C exchanges.
This particular exchange takes place when site A points to site B and then B doesn't reciprocate the link but instead points to site C. Using this hybrid method each site gets a one way link except A but this can be fixed by setting up a three-way linking pattern with other sites. For most people this is as far as off-page optimization goes but the truth is that the ABC model can be escalated to complex structures which can be represented through geometrical figures for instance the ABC model can be expressed as a triangle, an A-B-C-D structure can be though of as a square, A-B-C-D-E would be a pentagon and so on. In order for these models to work several domains which are relevant to each other must be involved, theoretically this structure can achieve the aspect of an E8 polytope geometrical figure which wouldn't resemble the geometrical pattern of reciprocals that is easily detected through a script using the Floyd-Warshall algorithm.
While these are great structures they must be executed with precaution because even though they all seem natural they can still be detected by Google if you escalate the model within your own sites within the same source IP. Some people devaluate the power of ABC and greater linking schemes by placing the references on pages designed exclusively to be link-dumps which provide little to no use to the visitor. A better approach would be to distribute these references within your pages where the exchange doesn't look like a to artificially manipulate the search results.
At this point some people may think: 'If I place reciprocal and ABC exchanges within my main site pages I will have no space left to show banners and relevant information' this is exactly why you shouldn't entirely focus on one pattern, having a variety of one way and reciprocal arrangements without giving more weight to one structure over the other is what will keep you safe from the search engines raising a red flag on your domains, figuratively speaking of course.
Executing these link structures involves a lot of work but the benefits your domains will get from this work can far exceed those received from reciprocating references.

Controversial Link Building Techniques
As we all know link building is a tedious process which no webmaster likes to do, it takes time and effort to build a good amount of inbound links in order to draw some relevant traffic from the search engines, the only problem is that not every webmaster knows how to do it right; since most webmasters tend to be quite lazy the thought of requesting relevant reciprocal link exchanges comes to mind and we immediately think of automated link exchange networks, while this worked some time in the past, as of today, this has become an ineffective link building technique which offers close to no benefit to the surfer, specially when several low quality sites appear in your link list.
Since the weight given to reciprocals went down it is important to focus on one way links but how do we obtain these type of inbound links?, again since we have picked lazy webmasters as our example we can deduct that the next obvious course of action would be to buy links, yes, this is the lazy people's way out, while acquiring several highly ranked links would be quite expensive such webmasters also take high risks of being discovered by Google's algorithm and being banned from the search engine result pages, so the question pops once again what should we do?
Now that we have established some of the wrong ways to acquire links lets suggest some great link building techniques which can result to be quite controversial but this is the goal we are after, you see, if people are not interested in your content or if they have seen it over and over they are very likely to hit the "back" button of their browsers which is not a good thing according to Google's analytics software; if you have used this tracking method you know that they measure the "stickiness" of a site by recording the amount of time visitors spend in your site and the number of times they "bounce back" to the search engines.
In order to gain inbound links we must place ourselves (and our sites for that matter) in the center of an ongoing discussion, now this doesn't mean we should register in many forums and spam it with link posts, that is not what this method suggest, instead you can find a good discussion topic which is sure to grab people's attention, for instance:
- Write an article about an ongoing discussion related to your niche. If you had a science site it would be a great idea to research current science news such as the recent controversial article which talks about "Evangelical Scientists trying to Refute the laws of Gravity with a new -Intelligent Falling- Theory", now this specific article is extremely controversial since you will have several people trying to explain the laws of gravity through science and others through faith or unconventional methods. Since you wouldn't be the first writing about it you can use it in a blog and then add your particular point of view which should have enough "spice" to trigger a discussion, but be very careful since you don't want to create a bad reputation for your site.
- If adding your own point of view to this article is not your style you can try to find a "funny side" to this story and either write about it, make a funny Photoshop picture related to it or even make a short video and post it on Youtube, quoting your site at the beginning and the end of the video. Social sites can be quite explosive as far as the attention your material can get so make sure to post it there to build huge amounts of back links.
Twisting hot stories (without breaking any law) and adding your point of view can sure be controversial once you use social sites to spread your word, that's why it is recommended to offer an RSS feed to your comments and articles, you can also use Press Release sites to get unparalleled attention, but what ever you do make sure to be ready for the amount of feedback you will get from your target audience.
As you see republishing a controversial article does nothing for your site but adding "extra material" to it is ultimately what gives it value and will help you get valuable one-way links. Make sure to make your site easy to link to by formatting your URL properly, you don't want to have a great article linked to an address such as " http://yoursite.com/index.php?458ref=abcd&cont=4454" as you see this is not an intuitive and easy to link to URL.
Do this with several controversial (but relevant) stories and you will see massive amounts of one-way links coming your way.
