Blog Commenting as a form of Link Building

A lot of people when they think about doing blog comments they most likely think of a negative way of doing link building. But when doing blog commenting the correct way it is actually a good way to get some extra backlinks.

The reason why people think it is spamming is because a lot of people misuse this technique as a quick way of getting a massive amount of backlinks, with all of the software and bot’s to leave comments on blog posts. You will often see comments like “Thanks for the post I found it useful information” obviously this is spam if you see a link at the end of it. This is similar to people doing forum posts just to get the link from their signature posted.

To do blog commenting the correct way it is pretty simple, take time to read the blog post and when you make a comment make it relevant to what the post is about, do not make the mistake of just reading the title of the blog post to save time and making a comment just from that. Because most likely your comment may be a bit off topic and you risk getting your comment deleted or not approved. Also another important part is making sure that the blog post is do follow, you will find that majority of the blog posts are no follow. There are a few ways to find out if a blog post Is do follow, you can either check the page source and look for the do follow tag on other comments, or there are various IE add-ons or Firefox add-ons that highlight no follow links.

There are a few other important aspects of blog commenting to maximize the effect, obviously a higher pagerank blog post to leave a comment on will give you a larger benefit, but also if you are able to find a blog post that relates to the page you are promoting is even better. If you leave a blog comment on a pet blog post and your site is about games most likely the effect will be minimal.

Now you may ask where can I find these blog’s to leave comments on. This is the hard part, you could do some searching in Google but it can take a lot of time. The ideal way to find do follow blog posts is getting one of the various blog finding software programs. I won’t promote any specific programs but if you do a search in Google for “Blog Commenting software” you will get an idea. But I would stay away from those automatic blog commenting program’s as they have spamming methods. You want to look for program’s that simply search for do follow blogs and you can search by keywords.

If you take the time and leave meaningful blog comments on do follow blogs you can find yourself with some extra backlinks.

Most Important Part of SEO – Keyword Selection

In most cases before you even launch a new website the most important part would be to decide which keywords you are going to focus on. There are many factors to consider when doing so, how much of a budget do you have? Are you an independent or have a large company? Are the keywords related to your site highly competitive but you have a low budget? You must ask yourself these questions before deciding which keywords to focus on.

I see one common mistake a lot of people make when promoting their websites, one example I will make Is they will do link building using the keyword “Car Repair” this keyword alone which is a small keyword has such a broad range, just think of how many websites are based on car repair whether it’s a site in Canada, United states or anywhere else in the world. For your benefit it is best to use something more long tail such as “Car Repair in Brisbane CA” this way you narrow down the keyword to a specific location. Otherwise any work you do with the wrong keyword or an extremely competitive keyword is pretty much going to waste.

If you have a small budget and do not have $1000’s of dollars to improve a highly competitive keyword, it’s best to do research for other keywords that are similar. One easy way to look up information on a keyword is to use the “Google ad words Keyword Tool” or type the keyword in Google and look what type of sites return in the first page. If you see many authority sites on the first page it’s probably best to look at an alternative. If you are lucky and look up a keyword in Google and you see blogs, deep link urls, or even articles in the first page results that means most likely not one site is dominating that keyword and you can easily rank first page for that keyword.

Try to remember to use different keywords for each part of your site; one common mistake people make is they use the same Meta title for each deep link of their page. By doing this you are not utilizing the full capacity of your keyword usage and are missing out on ranking on other keywords in Google.

The bottom line here is its best to do a few days of keyword research before committing keywords in your link building efforts, and try to stay away short keywords that are highly competitive. You can save yourself a lot of time and money to find a low competitive keyword that has even a decent amount of search volume compared to a high competitive keyword that will be very hard to rank even on the first page.

A Great alternative way to get traffic and relevant backlinks

Most people already know the most common ways of building backlinks and traffic, these could be email marketing, directory submissions, reciprocal links, article submissions and many other ways are pretty common. Ill discuss a few additional techniques that most people do not think of and can be an effective way to get more traffic.

A lot of people already use this technique the only downside is it will take up valuable time if you are a busy person; I’m talking about Forum posting. Forum Posting can be quite good for traffic and even backlinks if the forum has do-follow. But you cannot post on any forum, before you start posting on forums you must first do some research.

The most important part of forum posting is finding a forum that is relevant to your website and has a good amount of activity on the forum. The easiest way to do this is by using Google, for example if you have a sports website you can simply search in Google for “Sports Forums” and even narrow it down to your specific type of sports website. Normally on the main page of the forum you can see how much activity the forum has at the bottom of the forum. It’s best to keep away low activity forums because your posts will most likely not be seen by many people.

After you find a few forums that you think are good to post on obviously you have to register but do not forget to fill out all of your profile details, and most forums will have an area where you can add a signature to your profile. This is what will be seen every time you make a post and you can also add html for links to your site with keywords. But also keep in mind some forums have a minimum post count before you can add a signature.

Keep in mind when posting on forums you are not simply posting just to advertise your own signature link, if you think this way you will find yourself making irrelevant posts and may find yourself banned from the forum. Posting on these forums can be done even once a day when you have free time you can browse around the forums and look for a topic that interests you or you have a great deal of knowledge about. Not only by making relevant posts do you keep yourself from getting banned but over time people are more likely to remember you and will most likely be interested to check out the link in your signature.

Not only can the traffic be good from the forums but if the forum you are posting on has do follow as many of them do you can find yourself getting backlinks. Most likely the backlinks will have a low amount of an effect but over time having many relevant backlinks to your site should help you out a bit with the keywords you are using in your signature.

This is a technique that is overlooked by many people and if you are not doing this you are missing out on some relevant traffic.

Basics in Maximizing Your Social Bookmarking effort

Social Bookmarking has became a big method to boost your SEO efforts, with all of the hype on social media and the explosion of many social networking sites. Now many people use social bookmarking simply for interesting stories or big news headlines. But its also very effective to use to give your own website or blog a nice boost in rankings and traffic.

Ill discuss a few ways that you can make your social bookmarking more effective and worthwhile. Whether you are someone who submits a bookmark to a handful of social networking sites or someone that submit to hundreds, why waste your effort if you are doing them poorly. Most people have the misconception that when doing social bookmarking for SEO reasons they simply use keywords as their titles, an example would be “Dog Cages”… This is not a good idea because first your bookmark look’s like spam and does not fully describe what the bookmark is about. An better example would be to use something like “Dog Cages – Finding the right size for your dog”, or with latter part of the title being relevant to the bookmark.

If you use the above method not only will you ensure your bookmark will not be deleted you will also get more exposure and possibly direct traffic from that particular social networking site. Another mistake some people make is not making a description for their bookmark that is relevant to their bookmark. When making the description simply describe the specific URL you are promoting in 2-3 sentences.
Another important step to take is put some effort in your social networking profile, its best to make your profile public and fill out all the details about yourself and upload a picture of yourself. This will really help when people look at your bookmark and can see that you take effort in your social bookmarking and you are simply not doing it for extra backlinks.

Lastly did you know that most people think that you can only use social bookmarking for a blog post, news article or even video. Well you can even use social bookmarks for your own website, if you have hundred’s of inner pages on your website you can bookmark every single one of them. If you do this it is a great way to get pagerank to your inner pages and also increase the amount of traffic you will receive.
